I have been bringing beauty to the Austin area for 14 years. I moved here in 2003 at the age of 24 and started cosmetology school right away. I was inspired by Austin’s fashion and attitude of casual hipness and wanted to be a part of it. I came into the industry with a natural understanding of how to create texture and shapes in shorter hair styles.

I had been cutting my own hair for years and had always been drawn to edgier styles, androgynous styles and lived in, rock and roll textures, and that is what I was attracted to doing more of coming into my career. I began studying as an apprentice at Maximum FX, where in addition to strengthening my craft of haircutting with precision cutting classes based on Vidal Sassoon’s methods, I began to understand color formulating on a deeper level, and started to appreciate the art of blow drying and longer haircuts.

Since 2008 I have been able to live the dream of working for myself, and I have such a fulfilling career. In 2012 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and got to experience first hand what it is like to lose my hair to a disease, as well as many other physical and mental changes that a diagnosis like that can bring. I have permanent alopecia (medical term for hair loss) as a result of that experience. My work has been part of my healing process, and my healing process is more and more becoming part of my work. Working in the beauty industry, I was more quickly drawn to explore creative ways to deal with my hair loss, leading me to learn skills that I can polish up and offer to others, and my healing journey now offers a depth to my work and improves on what I am able to do for my clients on a more spiritual level.

I am low maintenance and don’t have time to mess with my hair. Shondi knows this about me and knows my hair. She cuts my hair in a way that let’s me have fantastic looking hair but without all the fuss. She has the magic touch that no one else has mastered.

I have been Shondi’s loyal client for about 7 years. I always look forward to my hair appointments with Shondi. After a visit to Shondi, I always feel better, look better, and get compliments on my hair. Her professional style is very relaxed, friendly and caring, with a keen attention to detail. She is the type of stylist that you can trust for a subtle improvement or a new look. Plus, it is always just nice to spend an hour with Shondi.

After relocating from SF to Austin, I was cautiously looking for a trusted stylist. This could have been daunting, but meeting Shondi made it a positive and seamless experience! Shondi carefully listens and impressively remembers details from visit to visit. I have always been happy with my haircuts and Shondi has generously trimmed my bangs between appointments and personally answered scheduling questions. I am already looking forward to my next cut!

When I graduated from college and moved to Austin, I needed a haircut and happened to go to the salon where she worked. That was almost 8 years ago, and Shondi has been cutting my hair ever since. I have followed her as she moved salons a few times. Even when I moved away for 2 years, I still waited until I came home to Austin so she could cut my hair. I highly highly recommend Shondi Pugh!!! I have sent friends and family to her. You won’t be disappointed!!

Shondi is nothing less than fantastic. My hair is naturally curly, and after years of bad, triangle hair cuts, I hit the jackpot with Shondi. She knows curly hair, she GETS it. She dry cuts to keep a natural shape, letting my curls do their thing, and I’ve never had a bad experience under her care. Seriously every single time that I’ve visited her, I get compliments afterwards. From total strangers, even! She really listens to what you’re looking for in a cut, and it’s a total breeze. I can’t recommend her enough, especially for you naturally curly folks!
